Family Update Jan 9, 2021
January 9, 2022
Hi Windom Families. I hope you all had an opportunity to have a nice weekend. If you did not get a call, text, or email about school tomorrow, we will be in e-learning. NO IN-PERSON SCHOOL MONDAY. This decision is based on the extreme windchill forecast in the morning, transportation challenges, and increased COVID cases over the weekend. At this time, I don’t have any information about Tuesday and beyond. If I hear anything, I will be sure to let you all know as soon as possible.
E-Learning Day Tomorrow:
All MPS schools are moving to e-learning for the day. It has been brought to my attention that many students did not bring their devices home on Friday. If that is the case, you can come to school in the morning to pick up the device. There is a very good chance that I will be the only one in the school, and I have an “emergency” principal meeting first thing, but we will get your students device. With this news, I know that teachers are reworking their lesson plans to try to be fully prepared for the day tomorrow. They should be reaching out to you with their planned schedule for the day.
Rise in COVID cases:
COVID cases are drastically increasing across MPS. In relation to the rest of the district, we have been in decent shape, but more and more cases are starting to come in. As a reminder, we don’t post any specific guidelines or decisions because each case is different and individually investigated by the department of health. Please keep your student home if they have any symptoms, especially a fever or sore throat, and notify us immediately if they receive a positive result. We need to know about parent and close contact positives, as well as vaccination status, as that may result in a different outcome depending on the situation. Feel free to call the office if you have any questions.
Picture Retake Day:
Retake day is scheduled for Thursday, January 13th. Reminders should have gone home in your students’ take-home folder on Wednesday.
Virtual Open House:
We will be having a virtual Open House event on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12TH from 6:00-7:00. This event is intended for prospective families, but you are more than willing to join. If you have any soon to be kindergarten aged students in your neighborhood, please let them know. Log in information will be posted on the school website the day of the event.
From Ms. Bruun:
I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break! I don’t know about you, but this cold weather is making it really hard to get motivated to get up and get moving (some people call this the winter blues but I just call it living in Minnesota). Our school has partnered up with the Minnesota Timberwolves to try and help get our students and families up and moving. For every 15 minutes that your student is active (i.e. going for a walk, playing outside in the snow, participating in sports, playing active video games, and more), they will earn 1 point. If they are able to earn 25 points or more from January 10th-February 11th, they will be eligible to earn a free ticket (with the purchase of an adult ticket) to a Timberwolves game. At the game, they will also be able to receive a free drawstring bag and the opportunity to get to go on the basketball court after the game and shoot hoops. This is an optional activity and you do not have to take part in it. However, if your student chooses to participate all they need to do is complete the 25 points within the timeframe and return the bottom portion of the handout signed by an adult at home to Mrs. Bruun in the gym by February 14th. If your student’s handout gets lost, here is a link to another: https://drive.google.
I expect the next couple of weeks will be a challenge. As always, If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call (612)668-3371 or email Eric.Loichle@mpls.k12.mn.us.
Have a nice week.
