Family Update Oct, 31, 2021
October 31, 2021
Good afternoon Windom Families! I hope you were able to enjoy the sunshine this weekend. I can’t believe we’re already in November.
Now that we’ve decided on a mascot, we’re designing new spirit wear for students, families and staff. We will also be having a student contest to help design an alternate logo that will go on spirit wear as well. The directions for this contest will be given in students’ homeroom. We will hopefully have everything ready to order in a few weeks.
APEX Fun Run:
We will be having our first official fund raiser of the year on November 11th. The APEX fun run is the culmination of a two-week long program where the APEX team comes to Windom and talks to the students about leadership and character building. “The leadership program focuses on developing student self-control, decision making and interpersonal skills vital for school and life success. The quick, engaging lessons…encourages students to create a positive environment, and inspires them to lead by example.” See the attachment for details. Each student will get a kit in class on Tuesday or Wednesday that will have their unique ID for taking pledges. The schedule for the run will come out in the next day or two. We will be looking for lots of volunteers to help mark laps for students as they do the run. The PTO will be working on the volunteer schedule.
Since the retirement of Ms. Rose on October 1st, the media specialist position has been filled by subs. Mostly me, but sometimes by others as well. During that time, we’ve been told that we’re not able to check out books to students until a licensed media specialist starts. We are working on that and are finding ways to get books in the hands of kids.
The person that was hired has been put through a long and arduous journey to get into the building. We are just waiting on PELSB, the state licensing bureau, to approve her license, and then she can get started. I am continuing to cross my fingers and hope that happens as soon as possible.
I’ve been able to acquire some tech help to get the website more robust and updated. One thing I was able to add was the nurse/attendance phone number, which wasn’t listed in the past. If you have a student who will not be in school, please call (612)668-3379 and let us know your student name and why they will not be in school.
COVID Shot Clinic:
It sounds like vaccinations will be allowed for students 5 years old and older starting in early November. We are in the process of working on setting up a shot clinic, hopefully at Windom, in mid-November. This would be optional, of course, but we are hoping to offer the option to families who would choose to vaccinate their children.
NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY:
Thursday is the last day of the first quarter, so Friday is a grading day for teachers. There is no school on Friday.
As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at either Eric.Loichle@mpls.k12.mn.us or (612)668-3371. Have a great week!
