Family Update 10/17/21
October 17, 2021
Hi Windom families. Happy MEA week. It’s a short week as we only have school on Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully you will be able to enjoy some time with friends and family with the time off!
Every Meal Food Program:
The Every Meal food program (formerly the Sheridan Story) is a program to fight child hunger through school and community partnerships. Every Meal works to fight hunger in our community by filling the gaps in food access that children face during weekends, summers, and extended breaks. Your student should have bought home a pamphlet with a sign-up form and a letter describing the program. Parents can send that form back to the school or fill out the online form at Every Meal sign up form. Or you can reach out to our social worker, Caitlin Samuels, if you have any questions.
Our conferences are Tuesday night and all day Wednesday. Some teachers have added additional days to accommodate family schedules. Make sure to schedule a conference so you can talk to your teacher about how the year is going and talk about hopes and dreams for your child(ren). Conferences are offered both in-person and virtual as options.
The new mascot for Windom Community school is the “Wolves”, as voted on by the students. Wolves had about 2/3 of the total vote. We are excited to begin work with the Wolfpack to design a new logo and new spirit wear.
Quarantine length moving from 14 to 10 days:
Starting last Friday, our quarantine requirement was shortened from 14 days to 10 days. MPS is reducing the required quarantine to ensure as much in-person student learning as possible and is doing so after discussion with the health experts on our COVID-19 Regional Support Team. Current research, while done prior to the Delta variant, indicates only a one-percent risk for increased contagion as a result of this change. In some cases, the 14-day quarantine still may be required based on the number of people infected, timing and exposure risk. All situations are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
We are looking to build a new Site Council at Windom. The Site Council is a group of parents and staff working together to help ensure the continued success of our school. Members are elected to serve two-year terms and will work on a variety of tasks ranging from curriculum to the annual budget. This year, the site council will also provide input on the mission and vision of Windom Community School as well as helping to develop and monitor the school improvement plan (SIP). Please reach out to Mr. Loichle if you have an interest in joining the site council.
I think that’s it for this week. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me at Eric.Loichle@mpls.k12.mn.us or by calling (612)668-3371. Have a great week!
